Formrt Site of Headquarters of the 1st Detachment of the New Fourth Army¡ªWu Ancestral Hall |
Wu Ancestral Hall, located in the east of Gaochun Old Street, was built in 1781 AD, the 46th year of the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty and is a relatively well-preserved ancestral hall of the Qing Dynasty in Gaochun. It faces the Guanxi River and backs on to the Old Street. The first row was used to serve as a performance stage, the second as a meeting room, the third as a shrine for ritual service, which are separated by skylight. The structure is featured by carved beams and painted pillars with antique simplicity. In June, 1938, the Headquarter of 1st Unit of the New Fourth Army was stationed here in the Hall when General Chen Yi led the Unit marching toward the east and fighting against Japanese Invaders. At that time, General Chen passionately took up a brush and wrote a magnificent poem titled Arriving at Gaochun in the eastward Expedition to commemorate the event. It is now the Provincial Key Site of Protection for Cultural Relics and Educational Base for Patriotism. |
